I Am Legend: A Post-Apocalyptic Survival Story

Paved Street, Lonely Fight With The Dark Environment

Ridley Scott For his adaptation takes it a step further The movie is an icy post-apocalyptic nightmare story that examines human isolation and the perils of unmonitored scientific process. An adaptation of Richard Matheson's novel, the movie features Dr. Robert Neville (Will Smith), a former military scientist who is believed to be the only uninfected survivor in New York City following an apocalyptic disease outbreak.

A World Turned Upside Down

And the opening sequence of this film establishes strongly how horrifyingly empty is world that Neville lives in. The city that never sleeps is now eerily quiet, a ghost town filled with vacant cars and empty buildings. The only sound is the far-off howling of the wind, and an occasional growl.

Neville's Solitary Existence

Neville is a brilliant scientist who has devoted much of his life to find the cure for having wiped out most humanity by virus (played brilliantly in my opinion). His days are spent playing around in his makeshift lab, sending out radio broadcasts to all reachable survivors and battling the grotesque monsters spawned from those infected.

The Dark Creatures

The introduction of the terrifying "darkseekers" in I Am Legend Even the nocturnal creatures, starved for human flesh by pure instinct, squack at Neville and take a bite out of his arm every now and then. They look inhuman, they act aggressive -- and the dread lingers throughout.

A Haunting Encounter

Neville himself is drawn out of his quiet as he finds a young woman named Anna and her son, Ethan. The presence of the three offers a hint at hope in times of turmoil, but it has also forces Neville to come to terms with how alone he is now and the terrible boundaries of his life.

A Final Stand

As the movie continues, Neville comes to realize that his quest for a cure has prevented him from seeing coexistence as an option. Either to keep his lonesome wander or take a second chance at life.
